Breakfast at Your Desk: Yeah, Maybe Don't Drink This So-Called Aphrodisiac Coffee

Magic Power

I don't know who thought of it, but yes, someone invented a cup of Joe you drink for, um, sexy time. Weird, and sort of funny, indeed, but the FDA is also calling this product scary and dangerous ...

Steer clear of "Magic Power Coffee," says the FDA. While we're hearing a lot about the health benefits of coffee these days, this one, which goes by the slogan "the world's first passion coffee," could make you seriously ill.

Magic Power Coffee contains a chemical that may cause "dangerously low blood pressure" when it interacts with certain prescription drugs, including nitrates.

Magic Power

"Because this product is an instant coffee labeled as an 'all natural dietary supplement,' consumers may assume it is harmless and poses no health risk. In fact, Magic Power Coffee can cause serious harm," Deborah M. Autor, director of the FDA Center for Drug Evaluation and Research's office of compliance, said in the statement.

Acid Reflux - Diet and Foods to Avoid

acid reflux

Acid Reflux

The muscle lining the lower esophagus (the tube carrying food from the throat to the stomach) opens for passage of food and liquid to stomach and otherwise remains closed so as to prevent stomach acid reflux from reaching the esophagus. When this muscle with such specialized function for some reasons gets weakened, stomach acid is pushed back into esophagus causing symptoms like heartburn, chest pain and regurgitation. If the stomach juice gets into the respiratory tract, cough, hoarse throat and respiratory problems can occur. This problem of weakening of the esophageal muscle known as Gastro-esophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) is caused due to various factors including certain kinds of food.

Cold Feet At Night? This Mega Hotel Chain Is Offering "Human Bed Warmers" (Yikes!)

File this one under "bizarre, strange, and a teensy bit scary." A mega hotel chain has just offered a new service option to please its (chilly) guests. Feeling cold? Just call the concierge and he'll send someone up to, um, lie in your bed to warm it up. Tell me I'm not alone in thinking that this is the craziest thing I've heard in a while ...

It's true. According to reports, The Holiday Inn has added an unusual new service to a few of its hotels in England (sorry gals, this hasn't caught on here at home yet). If a hotel guest is feeling cold, a specially trained hotel staff member, in a "zippered fleece suit," will rush right up and lie in the guest's bed until it's adequately warmed up.

Body Image: Move Over Size 0, Some Women Brag About Fitting Into Kids Clothes

status thing

Yesterday while getting my tooth drilled at the dentist, I overheard a conversation that shocked me. While I've known petite friends who shop in the children's clothing section, I've never thought about kids' clothes as a status thing (as in "look how tiny I am--I shop in the kid's section!"), but apparently it is ...

The woman at the dentist office was recounting a story about a woman she knew who liked to brag about her size, which was in negative territory. What's below a size zero, you ask? Try girls' sizes 12 or 14! Apparently this woman was pretty vocal about her tiny size and how she shopped for leggings and dresses and coats in the kids' clothing sections at department stores. She was really proud of this fact.

Acne - Childhood Acne

early onset

Acne is a condition that the majority of teenagers have to contend with at some time or another. For some it's just the occasional zit. For others, it's an ongoing battle against seemingly irrepressible outbreaks of pimples. The acne period for most people is between the ages of 12 and 22, but for some, the fight begins much earlier. These are children who suffer with childhood acne.

Childhood acne usually takes one of three forms: neonatal acne, infantile acne, of early onset acne vulgaris.

Neonatal acne is a fairly common condition that affects about 20% of newborn babies. For the most part, it appears in as open or closed comedones (acne lesions), otherwise known as blackheads and whiteheads. Sometimes papules or pustules appear as well. These are the red, raised lesions, with or with out a pus-filled head. The cause is related to in utero hormones that over stimulate the baby's sebaceous glands, which leads to the child breaking out with acne. These hormones migrate through the placenta, and after the baby is born, cause pimples on his or her face. Understandably this can cause a fair amount of consternation for the parents of these babies, who aren't expecting a newborn with a teen's skin problems.
